In the cradle of Kinh Bac culture formed and developed over centuries, Bac Giang province has a rich and abundant culture which is presented with customs and habits of different ethnic groups, historic relics, folk festivals and traditional craft villages
As a long-standing residential area, Bac Giang’s history is close to history of the whole nation. During thousands of years of building and protecting the country, Bac Giang has played as a fence in the north of ancient Thang Long imperial city and current Hanoi.
Bac Giang is a home to 21 ethnic groups, in which Kinh group accounts for 87.6% followed by 12.4% of different ethnic minorities including Nung, Tay, San Dui, Hoa, San Chi, Cao Lan, Dao and some other ethnic minority groups. Ethnic minorities are mainly in 6 mountainous and highland districts namely Son Dong, Luc Ngan, Yen The, Lang Giang and Tan Yen.
According to the Statistics, the population of Bắc Giang province in 2014 was more than 1.6 million people with an average density of 420.9 people per square kilometer, higher than national average. Population density varies with dense population in midland areas (Bac Giang city, the districts of Hiep Hoa, Viet Yen, Lang Giang, Tan Yen and Yen Dung) and sparse mountainous areas (the districts of Son Dong, Luc Ngan, Yen The and Luc Nam).
