A delegation of ambassadors to Vietnam attended the program “going to the hometown to enjoy Lunar New Year (Tet) 2017”


A delegation of ambassadors of Belgium, France, Russia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, India and UNDP Representative attended the program “going to the hometown to enjoy Lunar New Year (Tet) 2017” and a big longevity celebration ceremony in Yen dung district to discover traditional Vietnamese Tet. Especially, Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau, a special envoy to the Government Office of Vietnam, Assistant to Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the delegation. The delegation was welcome by Mrs. Hoang Thi Hoa, Deputy Head of parliament delegation of Bac Giang province, the 8th tenure, Permanent member of the Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children of Vietnam National Assembly, leader of Bac Giang Department of Foreign Affairs and Yen Dung district. 

In Yen Dung, Mr. Nguyen Viet Tuan, Secretary of the Party of Yen Dung district showed his pleasure to welcome the Ambassadors to visit and give New Year greetings to the local people. Mr. Tuan introduced brief information about socio-economic development of the district, its potentials, strengths and foreign directed investment (FDI) attraction in the district. He stressed, Yen Dung district had big potentials to develop different types of tourism, especially eco-tourism and spiritual tourism.

In 2016, Yen Dung attracted 125,000 tourists. The district ceaselessly creates a transparent and convenient investment climate for investors to run their projects. In 2016, the district attracted a capital volume of 230 billion dong with seven major projects including Yen Dung Golf Course and Service, Thach Ban Brick factory and Bac Giang Garment Factory.

On behalf of the ambassadors, Mr. Kamal Malhotra, UNDP representative thanked the leaders and people of Yen Dung district for their warm welcome and sincere sentiments.

Within their visit, the delegation attended a big longevity celebration ceremony in Yen Dung district and visited Vinh Nghiem pagoda at Tri Yen commune where preserves the woodblocks recognized by UNESCO as a documentary heritage in Asia and the Pacific  under Memory of the World Program .

This activity aimed to advertising Vietnamese traditional Tet and helping the ambassadors understand more Vietnamese New Year celebration. Each country has different way of celebrating New Year Festival but Vietnamese New Year (or Tet) likely has the most community cohesion.

Mr. Vnukov Konstantin, Ambassador of Russia to Vietnam shared he was really delighted to attend this program and “birthday party” (longevity celebration) to explore Vietnamese culture. He found this custom of Vietnamese people very interesting.
