Bac Giang: Promoting cultural heritages

From 10 to 11 September, the National Commission for UNESCO Vietnam in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication and the People's Committee of Bac Giang province organized a filed visit of the press delegation on cultural heritages to Bac Giang province. The delegation included nearly 30 reporters from more than 10 domestic press agencies.

From 10 to 11 September, the National Commission for UNESCO Vietnam in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication and the People's Committee of Bac Giang province organized a filed visit of the press delegation on cultural heritages to  Bac Giang province. The delegation included nearly 30 reporters from more than 10 domestic press agencies.

At the meeting with the delegation, Mr. Le Anh Duong, Vice Chairman of Bac Giang People's Committee gave brief information and answered questions from the reporters about cultural heritage and heritage preservation in line with tourism development of the province.

Bac Giang province is home to 2,237 cultural relics, and more than 500 traditional festivals in which 711 relics have been classified by competent authorities including 03 special national relics and relic clusters, 03 cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO (Quan Ho folk songs, Ca tru, woodblocks of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda), 03 national treasures recognized by the Prime Minister. So far, Bac Giang province has implemented many measures to preserve heritages such as inventory of relics and cultural heritages, digitization of documentary heritages, restoration and embellishment of the heritages and raising people’s awareness of heritage preservation.

According to the Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, the province has policy to promote the value of cultural heritages associated with tourism development without abusing the heritages. Besides, Bac Giang province has built many effective plans/projects to preserve and promote cultural heritages in line with tourism development. By this opportunity, he hoped the journalists would promote the real images of Bac Giang’s culture to domestic and foreign friends.

Within the framework of this program, the reporters explored the cultural monuments and landmarks of Bac Giang such as Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, Bo Da Pagoda, incense stick stone at Kham Lang pagoda, the thousand- year old tree, Tay Yen Tu spiritual Tourism Complex, Suoi Mo eco-tourist site. At these places, the reporters were introduced about the history, development and specific values of the heritages. Besides, the delegation had opportunities to enjoy custom of Quan Ho singers, traditional Quan ho and Ca Tru singing,  which are typical intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO.
