Since 29 May 2016, Vietnam has officially issued one-year multiple visas for American citizens when applying entry visa to Vietnam with the purpose of traveling, conference, meeting, personal purposes or working with agencies, organizations and enterprises in Vietnam.

This is the content of a new diplomatic note approved by National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam regarding the agreement on issuing visas between Vietnam government and the U.S government with the desire of promoting tourism and commercial exchange between Vietnam and The U.S in the upcoming time.

Accordingly, Vietnamese and American citizens (holding passports or other travel documents identifying their nationalities) will be issued one-year multiple visas by the competent authorities of the arrival country with the purpose of traveling, conference, meeting, personal purposes or working with agencies, organizations and enterprises in the arrival country and meeting other entry conditions regulated by the law of the host country. 

The stay for each entry of Vietnamese and American citizens will be defined based on the entry purpose according to regulations of the host country.
