Samsung Hope School inaugurated in Bac Giang

The people’s committee of Hiep Hoa district, Samsung Vietnam and Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI)/Korea on October 2 inaugurated Samsung Hope School.

The event was attended by the provincial leaders including Le Thi Thu Hong, permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council, Lam Thi Huong Thanh, permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, Mai Son, permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, leaders of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DOFA) and Education and Training and representatives of the donors including Choi Joo Ho, General Director of Samsung Vietnam and Park Sun Jong, Head representative of FFHI.

Representatives cut the ribbon to inaugurate Samsung Hope School

Thanks to attention of the provincial leaders, Samsung Electronics Vietnam Company Limited (Samsung Vietnam), KFHI (Korea) and Bac Giang DOFA launched “Samsung Hope School” project in Hiep Hoa district.

The Samsung Hope School was started in August 2020 in Thang town, Hiep Hoa district. After more than a year, this school has been completed and brought into use. Samsung Hope School is “a school after school time” built for about 300 disadvantaged students from primary to secondary school. It has one two-storey classroom building, a welfare building, a multi-purpose building, football field, garage and garden built on a total area of 8,100m sq.m.

The total fund for this project is nearly 20 billion VND, which will be implemented within 10 years including 8 billion VND for improving and building facilities, purchasing equipment and management costs. The rest sum will be used to carry out children development programmes (CDP) with extracurricular activities such as arts, music, informatics, cultural exchange, physical education and medical check.

Besides, the students will have opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills through the programmes on gender education, health care and free medicine supply.

It is the third school invested by Samsung Vietnam since 2018 (2 other schools were built in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces).

At this event, the representatives presented gifts to 50 disadvantaged students, cut the inauguration ribbon, visited the classrooms and planted trees at Samsung Hope School

Previously, permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Le Thi Thu Hong received Choi Joo Ho, General Director of Samsung Vietnam and other delegates.

She briefed the guests on socio-economic situation of the province and the pandemic prevention and control. Accordingly, the provincial economic growth rate in the first 9 months 2021 reached 5.5 percent and foreign direct investment attraction ranked 7th nationwide despite impact of the pandemic. To date, 100 percent of the enterprises inside and outside industrial parks have resumed operation including Korean enterprises, thereby creating jobs and income for thousands of labourers.

She expressed her gratitude to Samsung Vietnam for their kind attention to building Samsung Hope School in Bac Giang province to give more opportunities for disadvantaged students to go to school and access to modern educational services. Besides, she expected to get more cooperation of the enterprises in socio- economic, education, health and cultural sectors.

Choi Joo Ho thanked the leaders of Bac Giang province for facilitating vendors of Samsung to overcome difficulties and maintain stable operation. Samsung Corporation produces about 120 million cell phones annually in 130 countries and territories. Samsung Hope School is one of the key social projects of Samsung Vietnam.
